What is Radon Gas?
There are many common misconceptions about radon gas. First, we need to discuss what radon gas is. It is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas. It is naturally created from the decay of radioactive elements found in different amounts in soil and rock throughout the world.
Radon is extremely prevalent in areas with substantial levels of granite concentrations. Radon gas in the soil and rock is released into the air and underground water and surface water through the natural half-life decay process.

Myth: I have a new home so that must mean I do not have Radon gas problems.
Fact: Many new homes contain higher levels of radon gas than older homes. New homes are designed to have a better porosity in the soil around the home. This is done for moisture control but in turn, it helps increase ease of radon gas to enter the home. No matter how old your home is, you may still have a radon problem.
Myth: I do not have a basement in my home, so I should be okay.
Fact: All structures of a home have negative pressures in the lower part of the building, no matter the design. No particular style of home is more or less likely to have a radon problem. 
Myth: My neighbor's home tested low so mine must be low too.
Fact: You should never rely on your neighbor's radon levels. Even if you live next door, and your homes were built at the same time, you could still have a drastically different reading from your neighbor.
Myth: The area I live in does not have a radon gas problem.
Fact: Radon gas has been found in every State, some areas have lower radon levels on average than others. Even if you think you live in an area with lower levels on average, the only way to know for sure is to have your home tested.
Myth: Low-level exposure to radon gas is harmless.
Fact: No level of radiation exposure is safe and should be avoided whenever possible.

Myth: If my home has a radon gas problem it cannot be fixed.
Fact: There are homes all over the United States that have radon problems fixed every day. Any home can be fixed and the higher the radon gas levels, the faster the problem should be taken care of.
